It’s Almost Summer & There’s lots to know:

Summer Camp: Our summer schedules are unique. The Pre-School Room will go to Emricson Park for Team Sports, Playground Fun and Nature Hikes, from 9-12 on M,W & F. We’ll head out to the Woodstock Aquatic Center on Tues & Thurs. 12-3. The Early Pre will enjoy the Park every Tuesday am. See next page for more important info! The rest of the classes will be playing water sports on the playground and spending lots of time outside.

Summer Supplies: It is critical that all children wear appropriate gear for summer! They will need closed shoes, not sandals for their time at school. Hats are really important, as are swim-suits & towels when requested.

Summer Clothing: Please keep it simple! Cotton t-shirts and shorts are the most cool & comfortable for your child. We will have a limited number of House of Children T-shirts available for sale for $12/ea. Mesh Camp Bags are also available @ $15ea. See the front lobby for an example & place your order if you would like to be sure that there will be enough for your child. Note: Each summer camp participant (Pre-School room) will receive two shirts with their camp fee. When you pick out their summer clothes, be sure to pick up a couple of inexpensive spares to keep at school. All children must have 2 complete sets of clothing, and 1 extra pair of shoes.

Registration for School District 200 Kindergarten Ends June 6th!

The school will be closed for the summer while renovations are performed. Be sure that your child is registered prior to this date if they will be attending Verda Dierzen!

Summer Camp Kits will cost $45 and will include:
  • Two House of Children T-Shirts
  • One House of Children Mesh Camp Bag (for swim
    gear & towel)
  • One Summer Safety Book
  • One House of Children Water Bottle
  • Full Summer Supply of Water Babies SPF 45 Sunscreen

(Bright Orange T-Shirts with no super-hero graphics are Mandatory for the Pre-K Group each day, but do not need to be purchased from H.O.C.)

Curriculum Update
Did you know that House of Children is a Pre-School?
  • Our Teachers are all College Educated Teachers and your child is getting the best preparation possible for entry into Kindergarten.
  • By the time they graduate from our program, they will have met all of the State of Illinois Early Learning Standards, or we will have met with you to establish any necessary interventions that may be needed to help your child succeed.
  • So let’s wrap up the fun learning and get ready for vacations and a relaxing summer! In September, we will re-start our literacy and academic development themes, which will guide your child through play-based learning throughout the school year!

Happy
Birthday to . . .

More Summer Camp Info:
Once again, House of Children is going to host a fun-fun-fun summer camp program. Our schedule is on the front of this newsletter.
Remember the following important information;
  • Children must arrive at school by 9:00am on Park days, to assure that they will have accommodations.
  • Children must bring their own repellant! Mosquitoes tend to be bad at the park and we can not use "community" repellant.
  • Children without pool passes will be charged $5/day for pool attendance. We have 22 possible days to attend the pool this summer, and you may want to go on the weekends as well, so a pool pass may be a good investment. Income-based scholarships are available from the Recreation Department. Just ask them, or call them. By the way, the Rec. Department is located at the newly renovated Fitness Center on Lake Ave.
Bedding
A Problem for some:

Your child needs freshly laundered bedding every Monday without fail. We are in violation of DCFS regulations if children nap on unclean bedding. House of Children can not manage enough spare laundry for a group this size and will no longer attempt to do so. Frequent failure to bring bedding could result in discharge from the program.
Staff Updates & Training Schedule
Miss Sandra will be re-joining House of Children as an Assistant to the Infant & Toddler Programs. She is just finishing her first year in Education at MCC and will be providing us with interpreting services as well.

Miss Karen has returned as our Food Service Manager.

Keep your Pre-School Teacher Friends in mind, as House of Children expands our programs. They might be ready for a change of pace, or for Year-Round opportunities. We are still seeking two Lead Pre-School Teachers for the new building this fall. Minimum 2 Years College, with ample coursework in Early Childhood.

Welcome Back Miss Sandra & Miss Karen!
